Japanese WebQuest

Academics, Apple Distinguished Educator, EduTech, YIS January 23rd, 2010

During my 1:1 sessions with a Japanese classroom teacher, we created a WebQuest to support her motivation to use technology in the classroom and to help students be self-directed in honing their research skills in Japanese. The unit below asks students to find one Japanese folklore story and ‘translate’ the story using a Japanese dialect that the teacher assigned to them. The students have heard these stories in 標準語 ’standard’, non-dialect Japanese that translating it into a different dialect and sharing their stories to the class made them think of geography and culture in terms of expressions in Japanese.
